Every meter reading starts a process. Every incident report has a deadline.
Utilities handle meter readings, installments and moves, grid operators process connection requests, and those covered by NIS2 report significant security incidents within fixed deadlines. We build processes in which AI reads and prepares, people decide, and every step can still be shown later.
NIS2 · KRITIS Umbrella Act
01 — The industry
Customers, grid, critical infrastructure.
A utility runs a customer business and, depending on its size, critical infrastructure at the same time.
Customer correspondence
Meter readings, installments, moves, switching, complaints: requests arrive by email, letter and portal and have to reach the right process.
Grid connections
Notifications and requests for photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, charging points and storage systems reach the grid operator with data sheets, plans and forms.
Critical infrastructure
Energy is a sector of high criticality under NIS2. Since 17 March 2026, the KRITIS Umbrella Act has added obligations for the physical resilience of critical facilities.
02 — Use cases
Where AI helps, and where a person decides.
For each use case: what the agent does, where a person decides, and which products it is built with. Connecting your existing systems is project work.

01
Customer correspondence
Meter readings, installment changes, moves and complaints arrive by email, letter and portal.
- Agent
- Recognizes the request, reads customer number, meter number and reading, and drafts a reply.
- System
- Checks the reading for plausibility against earlier readings according to your rules and assigns the request to its process.
- Human
- Customer service handles implausible readings and complaints and releases replies before they are sent.

Grid connection requests
Requests for photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, charging points and storage systems arrive with data sheets, plans and forms.
- Agent
- Reads values such as rated power and device type from the request and the attached data sheets, and checks completeness.
- System
- Runs the request as a process with deadlines, queries and the technical assessment as a task; every status change is recorded.
- Human
- Grid planning assesses the connection and decides.

Security incident reports
Under NIS2, significant incidents are reported in stages: an early warning within 24 hours, a notification within 72 hours, a final report no later than one month after the notification.
- System
- Process Core runs the report as a case with these deadlines, reminders and responsibilities; every step is recorded with actor and time.
- Human
- The security team assesses whether an incident is significant, approves each report and submits it.

A meter reading by email, step by step.
Illustrative flow. Thresholds, rules and systems are yours to set.

- 02 · Recognize and readRequest, customer number, meter number, reading and date
- 03 · CheckPlausibility against earlier readings according to your rules; the rule version is recorded
- 04 · ClarifyCustomer service clarifies implausible readings and releases the reply

03 — Regulation
What applies, and what software can contribute.
Compliance is a property of your organization and its processes, not of a tool. Software can make the implementation easier or harder.
-
NIS2
German implementation in force since 6 December 2025
In short
Energy is a sector of high criticality: electricity, district heating and cooling, oil, gas and hydrogen. Covered entities have to take risk-management measures and report significant incidents in stages, starting with an early warning within 24 hours.
What software can contribute
Reporting processes with deadlines and clear responsibilities, self-hosted operation and traceable records of who did what.
-
KRITIS Umbrella Act
In force since 17 March 2026; obligations apply in stages after registration
In short
Implements the EU directive on the resilience of critical entities and covers the physical side: operators of critical facilities assess risks, take resilience measures set out in a resilience plan, and report incidents that significantly impair the provision of their critical services within 24 hours.
What software can contribute
Documented dependencies and processes that are not tied to a single location or provider.
04 — Products
What we build it with.
All products are open source under Apache 2.0 and run on your own infrastructure.
